{"id":85,"date":"2010-02-10t06:00:06","date_gmt":"2010-02-10t06:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.vanderbilt.edu\/cft\/?p=85"},"modified":"2010-07-29t18:41:20","modified_gmt":"2010-07-29t18:41:20","slug":"highlights-from-yesterdays-workshop-on-the-technology-horizon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/\/www.imrbdigital.com\/2010\/02\/highlights-from-yesterdays-workshop-on-the-technology-horizon\/","title":{"rendered":"highlights from yesterday\u2019s workshop on the technology horizon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>cft assistant director derek bruff tweeted some highlights of yesterday&#8217;s conversation on teaching titled &#8220;the technology horizon at vanderbilt,&#8221; a discussion of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmc.org\/pdf\/2010-horizon-report.pdf\">2010 horizon report<\/a> identifying six emerging technologies likely to impact campuses in the next few years.\u00a0 for those of you not following the <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/vandycft\">cft on twitter<\/a>, here are derek&#8217;s comments.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"status-body\"><span class=\"entry-content\">rhett mcdaniel is getting us started in our discussion of the 2010 horizon report. participants from all over the university!<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"status-body\"><span class=\"entry-content\">key trend in the horizon report: we&#8217;re connected everywhere we go. we expect that connectivity, and we work, learn, and play everywhere.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"status-body\"><span class=\"entry-content\">one short-term tech to watch: open content. know of any open content intiatives at vanderbilt? let us know.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"status-body\"><span class=\"entry-content\">horizon report put e-books in the 2-to-3-year adoption horizon. might the release of the ipad might speed that adoption up somewhat?<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"status-body\"><span class=\"entry-content\">for that matter, might the ipad move gesture-based computing up from the 4-to-5-year horizon?<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"status-body\"><span class=\"entry-content\">now watching scott leslie&#8217;s video featuring interviews with horizon report board members: <a class=\"tweet-url web\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/blip.tv\/file\/3131473.\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/blip.tv\/file\/3131473.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"status-body\"><span class=\"entry-content\">in the video: @<a class=\"tweet-url username\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/colecamplese\">colecamplese<\/a> discussing the use of mobile devices for backchannel conversations.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"status-body\"><span class=\"entry-content\">also, @<a class=\"tweet-url username\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/gardnercampbell\">gardnercampbell<\/a> on open content. what constitutes a &#8220;course&#8221; in a world of open content?
