drawing on his experience leading faculty learning communities at miami university and as editor-in-chief of the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/celt.muohio.edu\/lcj\/index.php\">learning communities journal<\/a>.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>also this week, cft educational technologist <strong>rhett mcdaniel<\/strong> is attending the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.educause.edu\/e2011\">educause annual conference<\/a> in philadelphia. this conference has had a particularly robust backchannel on twitter, under the hashtag <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/search\/%23edu11\">#edu11<\/a>. also, vanderbilt&#8217;s its has been streaming selected sessions from the conference in hill center 221.<\/li>\n<li>next week, <strong>milt cox<\/strong> and cft acting director <strong>derek bruff<\/strong> are heading to atlanta for the 2011 <a href=\"http:\/\/podnetwork.org\/conferences\/2011\/index.htm\">professional and organizational development (pod) network<\/a> conference. the pod network is a professional association for educational developers, and most teaching centers in the us are members. derek is serving on pod&#8217;s board of directors (the &#8220;core committee&#8221;) from 2010 to 2013, so he&#8217;s going to atlanta early for those meetings. he&#8217;s also co-presenting a session titled &#8220;<strong>everyone&#8217;s a visual learner: using visual thinking in the classroom<\/strong>&#8221; with jose vazquez of the university of illinois at urbana-champaign. derek&#8217;s also on a panel titled &#8220;<strong>ta certification programs: key questions for design and implementation<\/strong>.&#8221; milt&#8217;s on the program, too, co-presenting a session called &#8220;<strong>engaging and publishing about communities of practice for faculty development<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>the week after that, cft assistant director <strong>joe bandy<\/strong> is going to chicago for the annual conference of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.researchslce.org\/conferences\/\">international association for research on service-learning and community engagement (iarslce)<\/a>. joe&#8217;s not presenting, but several vanderbilt colleagues are, including <a href=\"http:\/\/iarslceproceedings.wikispaces.com\/a+cycle+of+service-learning+and+social+enterprise+-+redefining+the+parameters+of+community+partnerships+and+service-learning+outcomes\">leigh gilchrist (hod), sharon shields (hod), ravi patel (medicine)<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/iarslceproceedings.wikispaces.com\/these+kids+changed+our+organization+-+factors+that+enable+community+partners+to+build+organizational+capacity+through+service-learning\">joanna geller (hod)<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/iarslceproceedings.wikispaces.com\/new+insights+about+partnerships\">linda norman (nursing)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>check back here in the blog in coming weeks for reports from our staff on their conference experiences.<\/p>\n<p><em>image: &#8220;<a href=\"www.flickr.com\/photos\/essjay\/255925089\/\">suitcase<\/a>,&#8221;
