<\/a>the 2010-2011 coffee hour series provides an opportunity for stem (science, technology, engineering, & math) graduate students and post docs to get together online and talk about careers and the academic job search. the series will be facilitated by a mix of young faculty who have recently secured positions and more seasoned tenured faculty. the next coffee hour will be held thursday, october 21, 2010, from 12 to 1 pm central.<\/p>\n panelists:<\/em><\/p>\n what balance do you want between teaching and research? what are the differences teaching at a small liberal arts college, research university, or a 2 year community college? what is important to you regarding course load, student contact, research support, department size, or tenure requirements?<\/p>\n the diversity of post-secondary institutions may be far broader than you have considered. come and hear a panel of new faculty from very different institutions talk about their teaching experiences and academic life. there will be lots of time for questions and discussion.<\/p>\nwhere do you want to work? teaching and research at different institutions<\/h3>\n
