{"id":20705,"date":"2014-12-18t11:00:26","date_gmt":"2014-12-18t16:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"\/\/www.imrbdigital.com\/?p=20705"},"modified":"2014-12-17t14:24:55","modified_gmt":"2014-12-17t19:24:55","slug":"sotl-scholars-program-is-accepting-applications-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/\/www.imrbdigital.com\/2014\/12\/sotl-scholars-program-is-accepting-applications-2\/","title":{"rendered":"sotl scholars program is accepting applications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/\/www.imrbdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/sotl-scholars-flyer-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"margin: 1px 20px; border: 0px none;\" src=\"\/\/www.imrbdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/sotl-scholars-flyer-1.png\" border=\"0\" alt=\"description: https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/themindfulphd\/files\/2014\/03\/spring-300x271.jpg\" hspace=\"20\" vspace=\"1\" width=\"222\" height=\"335\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a>the sotl scholars program introduces participants to the principles and practices of the\u00a0<strong>scholarship of teaching and learning<\/strong>, an international, multidisciplinary field of disciplinary specialists studying student learning.\u00a0<strong>sotl is a synthesis of teaching, learning, and research in higher education that aims to bring a scholarly lens\u2014the curiosity, the inquiry, the rigor, the disciplinary variety\u2014to what happens in the classroom.<\/strong>sotl asks expert disciplinary researchers to apply and extend those skills into the classroom. for more explanation of sotl, see the<a href=\"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/sotl\/\"> cft\u2019s sotl guide<\/a>, which serves as the e-textbook for the program. the program has two sequential parts, each of which is highly collaborative:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a\u00a0<strong>one-semester sotl seminar<\/strong> to explore the fundamentals of the scholarship of teaching and learning, including its major thinkers and texts, its key concepts and language, and its relationship to older forms of classroom research, and to ask meaningful questions about student learning and its relationship to teaching. (spring semester: 8 sessions, 75 minutes each)<\/li>\n<li>a\u00a0<strong>one-semester sotl practicum<\/strong> to develop and carry out a sotl project (documented in either the first eight pages of a publishable sotl paper or a 20-minute presentation of the project, ready for submission to a sotl conference) and gain the skills for presenting the project in scholarly public forums, including relevant conference presentations and publications.
