\"\"as part of our \u201cstudents as producers\u201d theme year,<\/strong> the 2022年世界杯中国小组赛积分 will share and explore ways\u00a0 that instructors can teach for this kind of learning.\u00a0\u00a0 students, particularly undergraduates, are often seen as \u201cconsumers\u201d of\u00a0 knowledge, memorizing information delivered to them by professors\u00a0 during class and then simply repeating it back on exams and essays.\u00a0 but\u00a0 we know that they can be \u201cproducers\u201d of knowledge, as well, capable of\u00a0 generating meaningful, creative work, even within the confines of a\u00a0 semester-long course. join us for our first conversation on this theme<\/p>\n

students as producers: incorporating research and design into stem (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) classes<\/span><\/h2>\n

what do you consider to be the pinnacle of your field? for many of us, it\u2019s the discovery of new knowledge or the design of a new solution to a thorny problem. we want our students to engage with these hard tasks\u2014to do more than memorize existing results, to actually engage in aspects of the discovery process\u2014but it can be challenging to fit these opportunities in credit-bearing courses.<\/p>\n

this panel highlights three vanderbilt stem faculty members<\/strong> who have integrated compelling research and design questions into their courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

students in mark woelfle<\/strong>\u2019s genetics lab generate and\u00a0\u00a0 characterize mutants in a key pathway for dna synthesis and present their\u00a0\u00a0 work in a journal-style article, clarifying their understanding of the\u00a0\u00a0 pathway and the process by which our understanding grows.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\ntom withrow<\/strong> developed an entire course in mechanical engineering in which students\u00a0\u00a0 designed, developed, and tested an amphibious vehicle to compete in the\u00a0\u00a0 model-based amphibious racing challenge.\u00a0\u00a0 this term, he\u2019ll be\u00a0\u00a0 teaching another edition of this course.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
