from\u00a0<strong>9:00am to 3:05pm<\/strong> in\u00a0<strong>buttrick hall<\/strong>.<span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">saturday\u2019s schedule includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">9:00-9:30\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 check-in, buttrick atrium <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">(first event begins at 9:30 am)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>9:30-9:45\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 opening workshops<\/p>\n<p>2:00-3:05\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 session iii workshops<\/p>\n<p>we are looking forward to a great day of workshops and discussions on teaching, learning, and professional development issues across the disciplines.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">the event will begin with a plenary session in which a panel of faculty members discuss how they transcend the four walls of the classroom in their teaching practices, and will feature nancy chick (english), sharon shields (human &amp; organizational development), and barb stengel (teaching &amp; learning). <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">participants then select workshops in three sequential sessions. workshops include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>grading efficiently: finding the time to grade fairly<\/li>\n<li>flipping the classroom<\/li>\n<li>teaching with case studies<\/li>\n<li>making discussions safe<\/li>\n<li>writing in the stem classroom<\/li>\n<li>beyond templates: effective powerpoint design<\/li>\n<li>transitioning to professorship: teaching statements and portfolios<\/li>\n<li>beyond the ivory tower: alternative and non-academic career choices<\/li>\n<li>finding teaching moments in the field: learner-centered field research programs<\/li>\n<li>adding spatial dimensions to teaching<\/li>\n<li>social pedagogies: motivating students through social media and authentic audiences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong style=\"font-family: inherit;\">graduate student teaching event for professional development (gradstep) is
