\"\"<\/a>this fall, we’re introducing the cft’s 2012-13 graduate teaching fellows* individually to highlight their areas of expertise, interests, and specific cft activities.<\/em><\/p>\n

adam wilsman<\/strong> is a ph.d. student in history.\u00a0 his dissertation, entitled \u201cour enemy\u2019s enemy: human rights and the u.s. intervention in el salvador, 1977-1992,\u201d is currently in progress.\u00a0 adam has ta’d a wide variety of courses, including \u201cworld war ii,\u201d \u201cthe u.s. and the cold war,\u201d and \u201cu.s. history 1877-1945.\u201d\u00a0 he received his b.a. in history from binghamton university in 2006.<\/p>\n

early this fall, adam served as an instructor for teaching assistant orientation (tao), designing and teaching the session for new psychology tas. \u00a0he is also teaching\u00a0a section of the\u00a0certificate in college teaching<\/a> seminar and is working closely with cft\u00a0assistant director nancy chick\u00a0in co-teaching the new\u00a0sotl (scholarship of teaching and learning scholars)\u00a0scholars program<\/a>.\u00a0 in addition, adam is assisting cft assistant director joe bandy and the alliance for community engagement as that group seeks to build institutional support for community engagement at vanderbilt.\u00a0 adam also led the \u201cmaking the most of office hours<\/a>\u201d workshop and has served as a contributing blogger for the cft\u2019s \u201cprofessor pedagogy\u201d blog. \u00a0in the spring, he will work with his fellow gtfs in planning\u00a0gradstep<\/a> (a day-long january event offering\u00a0several workshops and discussions on teaching, learning, and professional development across the disciplines), as well as\u00a0subsequent workshops and other projects that emerge throughout the year.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0gtfs provide a variety of services for vanderbilt\u2019s graduate, post doc and professional students, including one-on-one consultations on teaching issues and professional development, syllabus and course design, interpreting and responding to student evaluations, writing teaching statements, and engaging techniques such as discussion leading, lecturing, and using technology in the classroom.they also create and facilitate teaching assistant orientation, teaching workshops, and the annual graduate student teaching event for professional development (gradstep) conference. in addition, they support the certificate in college teaching and various cft initiatives.<\/em><\/p>\n
