informal, discussion-based format.  these sessions provide members of the vanderbilt teaching community a chance to share their teaching experiences and learn from each other.  conversations on teaching typically being with opening remarks from   panelists   and then open up to larger group discussions.<\/p>\n<p>see <a workshops<\/h2>\n<p>these workshops focus on practical, concrete strategies  for common  teaching tasks, challenges,   and opportunities.\u00a0 these  sessions draw  on research-based best practices from   the literature on  teaching and  learning and help participants consider ways to   apply  those best  practices in their teaching.\u00a0 teaching workshops are  typically   a mix  of including  (but not limited to):<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>course       design<\/li>\n<li>classroom       dynamics<\/li>\n<li>diversity       in the classroom<\/li>\n<li>motivating       students<\/li>\n<li>teaching       with technology<\/li>\n<li>cooperative       learning activities<\/li>\n<li>assessing       student learning<\/li>\n<li>grading<\/li>\n<li>interpreting       student evaluations<\/li>\n<li>the       scholarship of teaching and learning<\/li>\n<li>documentation       of teaching effectiveness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>in addition to workshops, the cft  offers the  following services for individuals and groups:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>consultations with departments or other   administrative units<\/li>\n<li>consultations with individual instructors, based  on\n<ul>\n<li>observations       of instructors in the  classroom<\/li>\n<li>video       recordings of instructors teaching<\/li>\n<li>feedback       from students via focus
