high demand for gradstep session beyond the ivory tower: alternative and non-academic career choices
careers – academic and otherwise – are on the minds of many vanderbilt graduate students this winter as they begin applying for positions, interviewing and awaiting offers. at the cft we can tell because the career-focused session “beyond the ivory tower: alternative and non-academic career choices” at our upcoming gradstep event is a popular choice. so popular that we’ve decided to add a second session of this workshop to our line-up that day to accommodate everyone who is interested in exploring some of the issues and opportunities in careers outside of academia.
“beyond the ivory tower: alternative and non-academic career choices,” set to take place on january 26th from 12:45-1:50pm (this session is full) and will repeat from 2:00-3:05 at buttrick hall (room tbd). both sessions of the workshop will feature dr. ruth schemmer, assistant dean for career development, who will speak and answer questions on the alternative and non-academic job markets. whether you’re on the job market now or planning ahead, we hope to see you there!
held in january each year, gradstep provides several workshops and discussions on teaching, learning, and professional development issues across the disciplines. this year’s line-up includes a session on alternative and non-academic careers featuring dr. ruth schemmer, assistant dean for career development. registration and more details about gradstep are now available. a blog post written by adam wilsman earlier this month explores this topic in more depth.
